Our autumn retreat will take place on Saturday 21st October, 9.00 – 12.30 at Helen’s Bay Presbyterian Church. On Sunday mornings we have been looking in at the birth of the early church, guided by Peter and John in particular. At this retreat, we will be engaging with some of the teaching of Peter and John, in a later part of their pastoral journey.

Why retreat?
Some welcome the idea of retreat as a much-needed invitation to stop; some see retreat as a word with largely negative overtones; others view it more warmly as ‘strategic withdrawal’ enabling us to move forward with renewed energy.
Tony Horsfall defines stopping as
“pausing for a few minutes, or a few hours, or a few days, to remember who I am, why I am here, and to gain strength for the next part of the journey”
He continues:
We stop for the purpose of becoming more aware of our true identity as God’s beloved children, to clarify our purpose in life, and to reconnect with God in such a way as to receive the flow of his divine strength into our lives.
Far from doing nothing, stopping is a positive activity….
